Temporary Traffic Restrictions: A38 Flyover and Gloucester Road North, Filton

Order reference: 27/STOT/PT.8637

South Gloucestershire Council has made an order introducing temporary road closures, turning bans and waiting restrictions on the A38 flyover and the surrounding slip roads at Filton and Patchway.

Why the works are needed

The restrictions are needed for public safety while retaining wall concrete repairs, A38 flyover expansion joint maintenance and resurfacing take place on or next to the highway.

How long the order lasts

The order became operative on 16 February 2026 for a maximum of 18 months. The restrictions only apply when traffic signs are in place, and only for as long as the works need them.

Road closures

• A38 flyover, Hayes Way to Northway (A38 Gloucester Road North and A38 Gloucester Road, Patchway): 20 July 2026 to 25 July 2026
• Gloucester Road North, Filton, southbound on-slip road (entire length): 28 August 2026 to 31 August 2026
• Gloucester Road, Patchway, northbound on-slip road (entire length): 18 September 2026 to 21 September 2026

Turning restrictions

• No right turn from the northbound exit slip road under the flyover into Gloucester Road, Patchway
• No right turn from the southbound exit slip road under the flyover into Gloucester Road, Patchway
• No right turn from Gipsy Patch Lane (northbound) into the Gloucester Road northbound slip road
• No left turn from the Royal Mail entrance into the A38 Gloucester Road

No waiting at any time

• Gloucester Road southbound exit slip road, from its junction with Gipsy Patch Lane to its junction with the B4057: 16 February 2026 to 18 July 2026

Alternative routes

• Gloucester Road North southbound on-slip closure: northbound on-slip road, Hayes Way and the A38
• Gloucester Road, Patchway northbound on-slip closure: southbound on-slip road, A38 southbound, Filton Roundabout, then A38 northbound
• Flyover closure, heading northbound: northbound off-slip road, northbound on-slip road, Hayes Way, then A38 northbound
• Flyover closure, heading southbound: southbound off-slip road, southbound on-slip road, then A38 southbound
• Banned right turn from the northbound exit slip road: northbound on-slip road, Hayes Way and the A38
• Other banned turns: southbound on-slip road, A38 southbound, Filton Roundabout, then A38 northbound
